P. Kumar, Tiruchi MP, interacting with the card-holders at the Taluk Office in Pudukotttai

Volunteers of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) led by P. Kumar, Tiruchi Member of Parliament, staged a stir for a while at the Taluk Office here on Monday, demanding revised door-to-door verification of ration cards.
They alleged that the recent verification of family cards in the district has resulted in the suspension of supply of essential commodities to a large number of genuine card-holders.
Talking to the media, Mr. Kumar said that the verification by the field staff was not fool-proof. He appealed to the district administration to conduct a revised door-to-door verification of family cards in the district.
He also sought uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to those whose cards had been declared bogus after the verification.
R. Nedunchezhian and N. Subramanian, both MLAS; and Baskar, party Town secretary were among those who participated in the stir.
Official sources said that a total of 39,000 cards had been notified as bogus cards. However, appeal petitions were being received from the genuine card-holders. The last date for receipt of appeal petitions was January 10. The supply of essential commodities would, however, resume to all the card-holders, till the finalisation of the appeal petitions,

The names of deleted family card holders will be displayed in the respective ration shops from Monday.
According to a press release, door-to-door enumeration of ration cards was completed on October 31. The card holders whose houses were locked for a long period or cards found bogus had been identified during the enumeration by the field staff. Based on these data, the list was prepared.
In the event of any objection to the deletions made in the list, card holders may fill a form available with the ration shop and submit for amendment along with photocopies of their original ration card, proof of address (either property tax receipt, public sector bank passbook, driving licence, passport, or election photo identity card) with the ration shop personnel before January 6.
After physical verification by the field staff, the names would be included in the register. The State government was keen to eliminate bogus cards, but at the same time genuine card holders would not be put to any inconvenience. Till the names are checked, genuine card holders would be eligible to buy all essential commodities.
During enumeration, wherever residents (family members) had locked their houses and gone out of station for long, the names were deleted from the register. Similarly, the field staff also deleted the names of card holders where the residents had shifted from one locality to another place within the city or district. To avoid duplication, such a step had been undertaken.
