BJP today unanimously elected Pon Radhakrishnan as new State president
The Executive Committee of the Tamilnadu unit of the BJP today unanimously elected Pon Radhakrishnan as the new State president of the party. BJP National secretary Balbir Punj formally announced the election of Radhakrishnan at the party’s State council meeting at Chrompet.

Radhakrishnan was greeted by the party’s former State president L Ganesan, who later handed over the responsibilities to him. Hindu Munani organiser Ramagopalan, senior BJP leaders H Raja, C P Radhakrishnan, Lalitha Kumaramangalam, M S Ramalingam, K Narayanan and K N Lakhshmanan greeted Radhakrishnan.
The executive committee comprising 275 members would also elect three vice presidents and four general secretaries of the party.
Meanwhile, the BJP State council has come out with several resolutions including a demand to scrap Marine Fisheries (Regulation) Act, urging the government to take steps to improve law and order situation, implement uniform education, control the rise in the price of yarn and reject the recommendations of Justice Ranganath Mishra committee. The party also urged the Union government to make voting compulsory as in Gujarat.
Earlier, the party’s former president L Ganesan refuted a statement made by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on according the classical language status to Tamil. He said his party (BJP) had first tried to announce Tamil as a classical language during the primeministership of A B Vajpayee.
