CGRF, a useful platform to address grievances: Ombudsman

The Electricity Ombudsman constituted under Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC) is making all out efforts to create awareness among the customers about the usefullness of the Customers Grievances Redressal Forum (CGRF), according to the State Electricity Ombudsman R Balasubramanian.

Mr Balasubramanian, who was here to attend a meeting for Tiruchirapalli distribution circle of the TNEB, told mediapersons yesterday that they had already conducted two such meetings at Madurai and Vellore circles.

Mr Balasubramanian, who is also the secretary of the TERC said from 2006 to March 2009, the CGRF had received as many as 1497 cases of which 1304 cases had been disposed of till March last year.

Similarly, the State Electricity Ombudsman had received 112 appeals from 2006 to March last year, of which 82 were taken care of till the same period last year.

Replying to a question he said there was a necessity to educate the TNEB officials regarding the procedure for redressing the grievances and the implication of delay in disposal.

Similarly, the consumers should also be made aware of their rights, the procedure to register their grievances and the compensation payable in case the Board failed to address them etc.

Later, addressing a meeting of the consumers, general public, and the officials of the TNEB, he underlined the need to create further awareness among the consumers about the functioning of the CGRF and the Ombudsman .

He called upon consumer movements to take up this task and to serve the Board customers in a better way.
