In all 14 outgoing students of the SRM Institute of Hotel Management were presented with various awards at ”Jallosh-2010”, a cultural festival by the Hotel Management Students, here today.

‘Courtyard by Marriot’ hotel General Manager Karan Berry presided over the function and presented the awards to the best outgoing students, coinciding with the 16th anniversary of the SRM Institute of Hotel Management.

Of the 14 awards, the best ”Marriot” award among the male student was bagged by R Saravanan. The best award among the girls section was bagged by Preeti Rajakumari.

This was for the first time the ‘Courtyard by Marriot, which has more than 3,000 hotels across 70 countries and the SRM Institute of Hotel Management have come to an understanding to bestow awards to deserving candidates.

The awards were given after testing the holistic personality skills of the students, aimed at boosting the morale of the student fraternity.

Welcoming the passing out students to the hospitality Industry, Mr Karan Berry said intelligence, character, integrity and discipline were the key to success in the industry.

”Intelligence and character are the goal of true education.

This exemplifies in the success of the Marriot chain of hotels, which has now become a big empire after a modest beginning”, he said.

Later, talking to reporters, Mr Karan Berry and SRM Institute of Hotel Management Director and Principal Ashok Kumar said both the institutions have tie-ups for placements of students in the Marriot hotel and several students have got a minimum of three to four offers during placements.

Mr Berry said the award winning students were free to join the Marriot group and the hotel was ready to welcome them, train them and jointly work with them.

Mr Berry and Mr Ashok Kumar cut a cake to mark the occasion.

A cultural programme, in which students danced to the tune of Punjabi Bhangras, kept the audience spellbound.
