The much-awaited third generation (3G) mobile services is now available in Erode, with the state-owned telecom service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited launching the service in the town on Thursday. BSNL Tamil Nadu Circle Chief General Manager D. Varadarajan launched the service.

The service is available to all the existing mobile post-paid and prepaid subscribers of BSNL too. The existing 2G prepaid mobile subscribers of BSNL can migrate to the 3G service easily. The BSNL has also planned to sell 3G-enabled mobile handsets to its subscribers shortly. The service is available in all the places coming under the Erode Corporation limits and a few parts located close to it.

The 3G service offers a number of facilities including video calls, faster access to internet and multimedia services such as video on demand and live TV. Subscribers on the 3G network can make STD calls for 50 paise a minute. Local calls, on the other hand, are priced at 30 paise a minute.
