A day ahead of the anniversary of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, the Indian Maritime Forces have stepped up security measures along the South Eastern Coast (SEC) of Tamil Nadu to foil any infiltration bid by the terrorists.
A senior police official, quoting defence sources here today, said a high alert had been sounded along the South Eastern Coast by the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in view of the recent intelligence alert of possible intrusion by terrorists to launch Mumbai-like attacks in important cities across the country.

Navy and ICG had positioned warships and patrol vessels along Palk Bay and Palk Straight and intensified patrolling along the Indian territorial waters.

The Naval Air Station at Uchipuli had been alerted and air surveillance had been enhanced on Palk Bay, Palk Strait and Gulf of Mannar areas.

Besides, the Coastal Security Group (CSG) of Tamil Nadu Police, maintaining a round-the-clock vigil along the coasts, were also kept on high alert.

Fishermen were advised to carry their Identity Cards and not to cross International Maritime Boundary Line (MBL) for safety reasons,
