DMK Rajya Sabha Member and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s Poetess daughter Kanimozhi today said the recent agitation by AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa in support of sugarcane farmers was politically motivated.

In a brief chat with mediapersons here, she said the AIADMK leader was suddenly projecting herself as the saviour of farmers with an eye on the coming Assembly elections.

She said Ms Jayalalithaa had never bothered about the farmers when she was the Chief Minister. Before the last Assembly elections, she had announced that sugarcane price would be hiked, but never did so.

The DMK leader had already said Ms Jayalalithaa had all of a sudden wanting to become a friend of farmers and enacting a drama with an eye on the coming Assembly elections, Ms Kanimozhi said, adding, ”The people are watching her drama”.

On AIADMK MLAs calling on the Chief Minister and DMK leaders, she said AIADMK MLAs were meeting the leaders as Chief Minister, General Secretary K Anbazhagan, Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin and Union Minister M K Azhagiri were always accesible to them.

However, Ms Jayalalithaa would meet her partymen only if she desires, she added.

Answering a question, Ms Kanimozhi said it was not the question of DMK touching the 100 mark in the Assembly, as the government was implementing various welfare schemes to the benefit of poor and middle class people, the DMK would stage a come back with more strength,
