No decision taken by party to replace Rajnath Singh: Naidu
Posted by ganesh in Chennai, Politics, government on November 14th, 2009
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader M Venkaiah Naidu today dismissed as ‘media creation’ that the party proposed to replace party President Rajnath Singh with Mr Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra BJP unit Chief.
Talking to newspersons at the Airport here, Mr Naidu said the party, neither at the high level nor at executive level had taken any decision on change of leadership.
”We have not taken any decision. A section of the print and electronic media is indulging in false propoganda,” he said.
On former party leader Su Thirunavukarasar’s remarks that the BJP was under the influence of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and had no future, Mr Naidu said it was usual dialogue made by leaders after quiting the party.
Stating that he would not reply to the remarks made by Mr Thirunavukarasar, who quit BJP and joined the Congress, Mr Naidu said one could not rule out the BJP, just because it had lost the Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress too was defeated in elections, but the party is now in power, he said adding the BJP would come back to power at the Centre in 2014.
On the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, Mr Naidu said it was sad that even after the end of war, the Tamils are still being kept in camps, without any basic facilities.
Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who had gone to Colombo, should take up the issue with Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and prevail upon him to release the Tamils from the camps and allow them to resettle in their original habitations, he said.
He said people of Tamil Nadu were very much agitated over the plights of Lankan Tamils in the camps. Before they come to streets and stage agitations, the Centre and State Governments should prevail upon the Lankan government and resettle the Tamils.
The BJP would raise the issue in Parliament, during the coming Winter session, he said adding, the BJP would also raise the Spectrum scam, involving Union IT Minister A Raja.
