Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages committed 1 million dollars revival of Nemam Lake

Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages today committed more than one million dollars for the revival of the 1000 acre Nemam Lake in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu.
The company would partner with Tamil Nadu government and an NGO, Siruthuli for reviving the lake in a phased manner.
In the first phase, 100 acres of lake would be restored in the next three months with an outlay of 195,000 dollar to be jointly funded by Hindustan Coca-Cola and the state Government.
Revival of the lake in the first phase will create a water recharge capacity in excess of 150,000 kilo litres project to be executed by award winning NGO ‘Siruthuli’, which had restored Noyyal river in Coimbatore.
The lake revival project was launched today with the traditional ground breaking ceremony.
The restoration of the lake would immensely benefit the villagers, solely dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods.
Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi said the project would ensure better water availability for domestic and irrigation purposes in the area and would be the right model to demonstrate the virtues of public-private-people partnerships for water conservation and livelihood projects.
Thiruvaiyaru Iyyarappar Natyanjali Festival from March 12

Iyyarappar Natyanjali Festival will be held at Iyarrappar Temple at Thiruvaiyaru near here in connection with the Mahasivaratri festival from March 12 to 14, according to Iyarappar Natyanjali Trust President V Gopalan.
In a press release here today, he said 38 dance troupes and 300 artistes would take part in the grand festival to be held at Thiruvokakka Mandapam before the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
Temple would remain open throughout night on March 13, the Mahasivaratri Day, he added.
He said it was expected that an artiste from Paris, Koiniyo, called as Paris Lakshmi, would also take part in the Iyarappar Natyanjali this year.
Dr Muthkumarasamy Thambiran of Dharumapuram Adheenam would participate in the festival. Tamil Nadu Minister for Commercial Taxes S N M Ubayadullah would inaugurate the festival on March 12.
Union Minister of State for Finance S S Palanimanickam would participate in the festival on March 14,
Samba harvest has been completed on Thanjavur

Samba harvest has been completed on 1.10 lakh hectares out of total coverage of 1.36 lakh hectares in the district, said M. Karunakaran, Collector incharge, here on Friday.

Presiding over the monthly grievances day for farmers, Mr. Karunakaran said that average yield per hectare was 5,200 kg.
Under System of Rice Intensification method, maximum yield of 9,350 kg per hectare and average yield of 7,500 kg per hectare have been got by farmers.
Farmers are engaged in raising pulses _ black gram and green gram _ in the district. Sowing of pulses has been completed on 24,000 hectares. Eighty tonnes of pulses seeds have been distributed by Agriculture Department.
Farmers have to pay Crop Insurance Scheme premium for black gram before March 31.
For farmers who want to raise summer crop, ADT 43 seeds are available in agriculture extension centres.
Fertiliser stock position is comfortable, Mr. Karunakaran said. It comprises 6,390 tonnes of urea, 1,914 tonnes of DAP and 4,073 tonnes of potash with co-operative and private parties.
10,000 people from Tiruchirapalli covers Kalaignar Insurance Scheme covers

As many as 10,000 people from Tiruchirapalli, Pudukottai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Karur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Namakkal districts were benefitted from ‘Life Saving Treatments’ under the Kalaignar Health Insurance Scheme, according to Tamil Nadu Public Health Minister M R K Panneerselvam.

After attending a review meeting of the scheme with collectors of Tiruchiapalli, Perambalur, Karur, Ariyalur, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Namakkal districts, he said awards would be presented to hospitals and doctors for their effective implementation of the Scheme.
Stressing the importance of proper awareness campaign for the successful implementaion of the scheme, he called upon the collectors to expedite the distribution of ’smart cards’ under the scheme to the beneficiaries.
State Health Secretary V K Subburaj said Coimbatore, Salem and Dindigul districts occupied the top three positions in effective implementation of the scheme. A total number of 1.4 crore families in the state were enrolled under the scheme.
IUML will extend its support to DMK candidate in the byelection in Pennagaram

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will extend its support to DMK candidate in the byelection to the Pennagaram Assembly constituency to be held on January 20 next year.
In a statement today, party state president and former MP K M Khader Mohideen said a resolution to this effect was adopted at the party’s state executive held at Ayyampettai near here yesterday.
He claimed that the people of Tiruchendur and Vandavasi Assembly constituencies have shown faith in democracy and exercised their franchise in favour of the ruling DMK in the recent by-elections.
The IUML would work for the victory of DMK candidate in the Pennagaram Assembly segment, he added.
The meeting also thanked AICC president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for presenting the Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission report in Parliament and appealed to them to implement the recommendations.
The meeting called up on the Muslim scholars to participate in the World Classical Tamil Conference to be held at Coimbatore and establish a link between Tamil and Arabic languages,
Maragatha Lingam handed over to temple authorities
The Maragatha Lingam which was stolen from Sri Thyagarajaswamy temple at Thirukaravasal in Tiruvarur district in 1992 and which was recovered by the police recently, was handed over to the temple authorities by the idol wing police at Thirukaravasal on Wednesday.
A team of police officials comprising of S. Selvaraj, Deputy Superintendent of police, Idol wing and Inspectors I. Khader Batcha and N. Jeevanandam-handed over the Maragatha Lingam to HR and CE officials- Kavitha Joint Commissioner, Gajendran, Assistant Commissioner and Kaviyarasu, Executive Officer of the temple.
The Lingam was taken in a procession to the temple and villagers accorded a welcome to the idol at the entrance of the temple. According to DSP Selvaraj, the idol was stolen from the temple on August 2, 1992. It could not be traced for a long time. After G. Thivakavathy became the Additinal Director General of Police, Idol wing, special team was formed to investigate. On getting information that a person tried to sell Maragatha Lingam in Villupuram area, the team rushed there and recovered the Lingam from that person named Devasenathipathi. Later the police verified with archakas of the temple and others and confirmed that it was the lingam which was stolen from temple. Devasenathipathi was arrested, produced before court and remanded to custody.
HR and CE officials said that pujas for the lingam will start on an auspicious day. Until then the Lingam will be kept safely in the temple. Police security has been arranged for the temple.
EC asks DGP to probe police raids at DMK, AIADMK leaders’ homes

The Election Commission has directed Tamil Nadu Director General of Police to inquire into raids at the residences of DMK and AIADMK leaders by a senior police official and sought a report within seven days.
In its communication to the DGP, the EC asked him to go into the conduct of S S Krishnamurthy, IG Police (South Zone) in Madurai, who had conducted raids at the premises of leaders of AIADMK and ruling DMK on December 12 without orders from the EC or the Chief Electoral Officer of the state.
Mr Krishnamurthy was recently transferred from Tiruchendur, where an assembly bypoll is due on Saturday, as the EC found his conduct was “not above board”.
Earlier in the day, a delegation of AIADMK leaders petitioned the Commission demanding action against the police officers involved in the raids.
Guru Peyarchi festival moves from Mahara rasi to Kumba rasi.
Special Alangaram made for Guru Bhagwan in Sri Vasishteswaraswamy Temple at Thittai near Thanjavur for “Guru Peyarchi”

Hundreds of people thronged Sri Apathsahayeswaraswamy temple, Navagraha Kshetra for Gurubhagawan, at Alangudi in Tiruvarur district on Tuesday, in view of Guru Peyarchi festival. The transit takes place at 11.59 p.m. (i.e. at mid night) and Guru Bhagawan moves from Mahara rasi to Kumba rasi. Special abishekams and archanas will be performed to Guru Bhagawan at the transit time. People queued up to have darshan of Guru Bhagawan and the crowd is expected to be more by night and when transition takes place.
Special buses were operated by Government Transport Corporation to Alangudi from various places. Protected drinking water supply was ensured by the local body. A medical camp was also put up for helping devotees in case of emergencies.
Thittai
Special abishekam and archanas were also performed at Sri Vasishteswaraswamy temple at Thittai in Thanjavur district where a Gur Bhagawan sannidhi existed inside the temple. Hundreds of people visited the temple and offered worship to Guru Bhagawan. Special arrangements were made by the temple authorities for the benefit of devotees at Thittai. Even here the crowd is expected more during transition time.
Campaign in by-polls by Stalin, Jayalalithaa and Vijayakant

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, opposition AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa and actor-turned-DMDK leader Vijayakant would join the campaign next week for the by-polls to two assembly seats Dec 19.
Polls will be held in Vandavasi and Tiruchendur assembly constituencies.
Stalin is expected to campaign in Tiruchendur Dec 13-14 for DMK’s Anita Radhakrishnan.
The AIADMK Sunday announced that leader of opposition Jayalalithaa will be campaigning in Tiruchendur Dec 12-13 and in Vandavasi Dec 15-16.
Vijayakant will campaign in Tiruchendur on the days when Jayalalithaa will be canvassing for her candidate.
With Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi hinting at his retirement sometime next June, it is important for DMK to win the two seats so that Stalin’s supremacy in the party is further cemented.
