CPM, PMK slam govt on recruitment of rtd staff

The Tamil Nadu unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) today opposed the State Government’s decision to employ retired government employees on contract basis.

CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadarajan and PMK Founder Leader S Ramadoss, in separate statements, urged the government to withdraw the Government Order (No170), seeking to appoint retired government staff on contract basis on ‘low salaries.’ When there were more than two lakh posts lying vacant and as many as 62 lakh graduates wating for jobs after registering with employment exchanges, it was ridiculous for the government to appoint retired employees on contract basis, they said.

They said when there was stiff opposition to private sector recruiting people on contract basis, the government’s move to employ retired staff on contract basis would set a bad precedent.

The government should come forward to fill up the vacancies on regular pay scales with candidates registered with employment exchanges, they demanded.
